Leather Man Ltd. has been making belts in a small factory in New England for over half a century. We have learned that there are certain rules to follow in making a quality belt.

First, we use only the best components. The brass we use comes from the same foundry that supplies the buckles to luxury brands like Vuitton, Coach, and Dooney. It is all cast, hand polished to a low luster, and lacquered. Our use of brass is fully compliant with California Proposition 65.

The leather we use is vegetable tanned, top grain, shoulder leather with an aniline dye. It is produced by North America's largest tannery. All our custom-designed ribbons often go through five or six iterations to achieve the exact effect we desire.

The final and most important component is workmanship. We recently calculated that our factory has a combined 278 man-years of experience, with an average tenure of 13 years per employee. Leather Man has no quality control department because every employee is responsible for ensuring only perfect craftsmanship is passed on, not just occasionally, but every time, year after year.

This mindset takes time to develop, but once in place, things move along smoothly. People are much happier making high-quality products. Our work is the product of a true team effort - sewers, cutters, painters, cobblers, salespeople, and even the owners. We are happy in our work and have a warm, cooperative workplace often filled with laughter.
